PETER HUNT MISCELLANY
|
Peter Hunt was born Frederick Lowe Schnitzer in East Orange, New Jersey in 1896. He served in WWI in France. In the late 1920s he moved to Provincetown, Massachusetts and began painting.
He was best known as a folk artist, painting old furniture, household items and fabrics, decorating them with colorful peasant designs, reminiscent of Pennsylvania German and French provincial folk art.
In 1930, Hunt expanded his business to include several storefronts and workshop spaces he called “Peter Hunt’s Peasant Village”. Hunt died at Cape Cod in 1967. |
