LYME ART ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES 100 YEARS
by Sara Drought Nebel, Lyme Art Association
Lyme Art Association Tea 2002 |
The Lyme Art Association gallery opening, on August 6th, 1921, with Florence Griswold as the gallery's first manager, was a tea on the front lawn. There are paintings of it! The building, the way it still looks today, with its doors flung open, an elder Sycamore tree, that still graces the lawn of LAA, and the 1920's attire, worn by the artists, families, art enthusiasts and patrons will be celebrated at our Century of Inspiration Tea Event/Exhibit during the month of August. Paintings and sculpture will abound, with some of the quintessential New England scenes that the artists recreated 100 years ago, side by side with the work of our contemporary colony of living artists, inspired by the same romantic farm/river/seaside/forest scenes, florals, still life and portraiture. Carrying the Old Lyme Art Colony torch of inspiration into the next century. |
