Dog morning

        For John Boldt

Wide, red flowers
bouncing & fertile,
brush over the shoulder
of the wagging black dog

   pissing in hibiscus.

Above, a frigate bird banks,
  leaning by intention –
somehow it just knows
    to soar that way.

Here, all is strife
tumult & uproar, whitewater life

But this morning’s walk
   unbidden hope-

In spite of everything
I can see

blessings for everybody.
