It might be the best-kept interior design secret in Connecticut. I’m talking about the fabric showroom at Imperial Decorating and Upholstery in West Hartford. For three generations, starting in the 1930s, the Gallinoto family has set the standard for excellence in decorating and upholstery in the Hartford area. Past issues of CTOldHouse.com have featured antique chairs and sofas that Imperial has worked its magic on.
What too many people don’t know is that Imperial has a full fabric showroom with lines like Robert Allen, Kravet, Ralph Lauren, and Charles Stewart. Imperial has a good stock of area rugs and can, when called on, do custom area rugs. Custom drapery is a specialty. The lost art of seat weaving is kept alive at Imperial.
