    A YEAR OF CELEBRATION:
          COUNTRY CARPENTERS 50th ANNIVERSARY

50 years ago, in 1974, Country Carpenters was born. The brilliant conception of its visionary founder, Roger Barrett Sr., Country Carpenters’ goal was to bring the strength and beauty of the age-old methods of post and beam construction to the current day and to create a business that would have a positive lasting effect on the lifestyles of its customers and employees for generations to come.

Utilizing wood from abandoned tobacco barns, Roger Sr. and his son, Roger Barrett Jr., would build beautiful post and beam homes for clients. Nearly without fail, customers requested a post and beam barn or carriage shed to match the house. This sparked the idea of Country Carpenters as a backyard business selling one signature carriage house model. This idea blossomed into a company with over 13 standard models, a village of walk-thru models and an indoor showroom at its five-acre location in Hebron, CT. Country Carpenters has now shipped their post and beam building kits to over 40 states throughout North America and even overseas.
Country Carpenters has been featured in the New York Times and on This Old House. Along with supporting numerous community projects, like hosting elementary woodworking workshops and employing high school students as part of a work-based learning collaboration, they’ve also presented the annual Hebron Colonial Day for the past 13 years. This is a free event where folks can see history in action with period re-enactors in the model village going about daily work-life typical of the 1750’s.
What began with new houses built from reclaimed old barns morphed into a business crafting new post and beam outbuilding kits, and finally came full circle in 2006 when Roger Sr. and Roger Jr. opened Early New England Homes (ENEH). ENEH specializes in period-style homes that restore warmth and character to homes built today and brings family and friends back together in the heart of the home.
Beginning Jan 1st of 2024, we celebrate the 50-year legacy of Country Carpenters, highlighting some exciting events throughout the year: A model walk-thru barn at the Hebron Harvest Fair with an interactive demonstration, a moving play hosted in the Country Carpenters model village, and a furniture or shed raffle for charity, to name a few. Additionally, look for new items, such as our 50th anniversary calendar, coloring book, Country Carpenter’s branded t-shirts, hats, and hoodies with our 50-year anniversary logo, and other 50-year anniversary memorabilia you won’t want to miss. Watch for our new commercials and videos and our two newest post & beam models. First, the Clearstory Barn - reminiscent of the old Connecticut River valley tobacco barns, this high-ceiling barn is the perfect solution for RV storage. Also, the Country Pavilion – this rugged open-air structure makes for the ultimate outdoor gathering place.
This year we are also proud to announce the new Country Carpenters family of companies – “Post & Beam Barns by Country Carpenters,” and “Early New England Homes by Country Carpenters.”
Come, join us in celebrating 50 years of America’s best post & beam buildings!
