CHERRY BROOK WOODWORKS REVISITED
A crotch mahogany custom designed sideboard
|
Three years ago, in the premier issue of CTOldHouse.com, we visited with furniture craftsman Pete Aleksa at his shop in a remodeled apple storage barn behind his house in Canton. We thought it was time to catch up with Pete, the sole proprietor and sole employee of Cherry Brook Woodworks, and get a look at what has been through his workshop lately.
Pete, 43, is a former marine biologist who handcrafts, along with modern pieces, museum quality reproductions of Federal and Chippendale furniture. In 2006 Pete was commissioned to make twenty-four hand-made square-back Federal style chairs for Gracie Mansion, the New York City museum that also serves as the Mayor’s residence. These chairs are now fixtures in the dining hall, in the part of Gracie Mansion that was built in 1799.
Following is a selection from Cherry Brook Woodworks recent work.
