CATCHING UP WITH CHERRY BROOK WOODWORKS

Six years ago, in the premier issue of CTOldHouse.com, we visited with furniture craftsman Pete Aleksa at his shop in a remodeled apple storage barn behind his house in Canton.
Pete is a former marine biologist who handcrafts, along with modern pieces, museum quality reproductions of Federal and Chippendale furniture.

Following is a selection from Cherry Brook Woodworks recent work.

A shaker table 10 feet long and 44" wide made from three cherry boards.  I was given a picture of an original table that was shorter in length.

These two table were commissioned for a period home locally.  The original kitchen area of the home was being used as a dinning area.  Both tables would be used and displayed independently in the same long room but are able to come together with company boards to allow for seating of 20 people. Both tables, primarily the legs, were designed incorporating elements of original tables.

This was a collaboration with a great local Interior designer- Sal Modifica.  Its an acorn console.  Its a period shape or form but we changed up a few things.  The acorn shaped columns are all turned by hand and the apron is all hand carved.
A couple of recently commissioned beds.  The spool bed was based on a picture.  The country bed was one I designed for my son based on period examples. The spool bed is maple with a cherry stain and the country bed is cherry.  Both full size.
This is probably one of the best projects I have done.  The client had a period Biedermeier day bed and they commissioned me to make a matching king size bed.  The bed I made was color matched to the original and they were used in the same master bedroom.  Everything was carved by hand to match.  The head board panels have a slight curve to them.
