The 51st Annual Outdoor Antiques Show sponsored by the Lebanon Historical Society was staged, as always, on the Lebanon Green on Saturday, September 30th. By day’s end, 1,100 people had shopped the booths of 52 dealers. As always at this sale, there was an abundance of quality old furniture and antique housewares. Along with traditional hot dogs and hamburgers, there was home-made clam chowder and fresh baked pie by the slice. All good things were there, as shown in the accompanying photos. But something else was there, something special. To get to meet someone who is doing something wonderful for local children is always a great gift. At this sale I met Chris Norige for the first time at her booth, where she sold a fascinating variety of gifts, including an Amerind-style “Dreamcatcher” that she weaves herself. It turns out that Chris, part Amirind, is involved in presenting "Round Robin" programs for elementary school kids where they gather around her and take in Amerind legends and nature wisdom. Listening to her talk at her booth, you have no doubt that through long years as a teacher she has developed the ability to capture children’s imaginations. I am looking forward to doing a future article on Chris’ “Round Robin” programs. If you would like to talk to her, her phone number is 860-303-7729. |
